Rock Band Blitz, the new downloadable entry in the Rock Band franchise, will be released on August 29, Harmonix has announced

The controller-based game – gone is the need for a guitar peripheral – includes over 20 new songs and works instantly with any of the 3,500+ Rock Band songs.

The ryhythm games features lanes representing each instrument on the track, which players must switch between whilst maintaining well-timed button presses.

Bringing a new element to the gameplay are arcade-style power-ups: Fire off the Bottle Rocket to explode gems in the distance, or chase down the Flame Notes for valuable bonus points. Over 10 unique power-ups will be available to utilise.

Rock Band Blitz will be priced 1200 MS Points on XBLA and $14.99 on PSN.
