Battlefield 3 is not being designed to directly go after Call of Duty, the game's executive producer Patrick Bach has told Edge magazine.

According to Bach, Battlefield 3 must have its own identity.

"Honestly, we're not trying to go after CoD," he told Edge. "Of course there will be crossover - it's a first-person shooter, it's modern-day, and there are resemblances on locations, even - we're all inspired by the same media and the world around us.

"But to be a star you need to play your own songs."

That's not the view of EA boss John Riccitello, who earlier this year said Battlefield 3 was designed to take down Call of Duty.
